AESSEAL has been honoured for the second time with the Princess Royal Training Award for its exceptional training and development initiatives. This recognition, endorsed by HRH The Princess Royal, has been given to just 52 other recipients in 2023.
AESSEAL had previously secured a Princess Royal Training Award back in 2018. Group Managing Director Chis Rea says:
We are proud to have received this significant honour for the second time, in recognition of our commitment to training and development, which is a key part of our business success.
We recruit apprentices because we need to train our own. In the last five years the cost of apprentice training has been £5.4 million for 233 apprentices, taking into account external training fees, mentoring, management costs, and the salary cost for day release training.
We train apprentices to compensate for the lack of training and skills development from other businesses and to secure our ability to provide customer service in the future and we consider the £5.4 million not as a cost, but a necessary investment in our future.
The Princess Royal Training Award is the latest recognition for AESSEAL’s training and development. The company was judged to be the top UK apprentice employer in the manufacturing sector for 2022, according to the Department of Education’s annual rankings. AESSEAL was the highest ranked manufacturing employer, and reached 32nd overall in the Top 100, chosen from over 500 entries from UK apprentice employers across a wide range of industries.
Apprentice training is just one part of the training and development picture.
AESSEAL plc is accredited by the IMechE to operate an MPDS scheme to train and develop engineers from technician level to Chartered Engineer status. Of the 516 employees in AESSEAL plc (just over one-third of the Group total) 161 are engineers (HNC, HND and above) and 7 of the 8 Chartered Engineers have been through the MPDS scheme.
Since 2010 the company has also run a Fast Track Management Development programme as a reaction to the perception that ‘it is impossible to hire graduates with the right management skills.
AESSEAL will receive Princess Royal Training Award from HRH The Princess Royal at a ceremony in November.
